The lead story is Polycom and leading Global Service Providers form the Open Visual Communications Consortium (OVCC) to create a visual communications exchange to enable visual B2B communications between VC and TP systems on different telecom networks; target start date is mid-2012. We welcome this initiative and estimate the time required to achieve complete interoperability worldwide may take much longer. Polycom also announced a strategic alliance with HP and purchase of HP's Visual Collaboration business including Halo.

"The video communications market is finally in a mainstream state," Craig Malloy, CEO Logitech's LifeSize Division told Computer Reseller News magazine in a recent interview. Logitech itself will ramp up as a UC player, but Logitech and LifeSize are committed to keeping their channel resources largely separate for now.

Equipment news is: Creative's Live!® Cam inPerson HD approved for Skype has H.264 encoding on the camera instead of the PC; Business Octane of India has launched Immersive TeleAllpresence which adds a multi-site capability to its line of Telepresence systems; VSee™, a U,S. based provider of video collaboration services has launched One-Click Collaboration; Nefsis Distributed Cloud Technology includes Built-In Network Diagnostics to Optimize Video Conferencing Performance.

Industry News is: VCON founded in 1994 and a leader in videoconferencing technology development was acquired by The Emblaze Group in 2005; now it is being spun off as an independent company again owned by private equity.
