The lead story describes how High-Definition Telepresence systems from Polycom are becoming the preferred solution for producers of U.S. popular TV shows such as Dr. Phil, The Doctors, and Ask Oprah's All Stars. Hollywood producers rely on Polycom Telepresence for on-camera communication with talk show guests, and for collaboration between dispersed sites on the pre- and post-production process of making filmed series.
Further considerable interest from the entertainment industry is expected when the Telepresence World event is held within NABSHOW (National Association of Broadcasters) at Las Vegas Convention Center next month from 11-14 April 2011. The NAB event attracts 100,000 media and entertainment professionals from 150 countries.
Other user applications of HD videoconferencing and video streaming are: Australia``s Academic and Research Network streamed a series of HD video demonstrations of gastrointestinal endoscopy to endoscopy specialists in China, South Korea, Japan and Thailand; Arizona State University has adopted the new VidyoReplay appliance that lets users record and web cast their own video conferences; the pilot use a high definition holographic video rear projection system from Musion at Manchester Airport; and 4 HD videoconferencing user stories in brief.
New equipment news is: The new VidyoRouter Cloud Edition offers service providers and large enterprises a scaleable network of VidyoRouter appliances to optimize WAN bandwidth utilization and save costs; Cisco enables interoperability between the Cisco umi Telepresence for consumers and the Cisco TelePresence portfolio for businesses; Vidyo has announced the Vidyo Plug-In for Microsoft Lync; the new Cisco Jabber (tm) is a Unified Communications and presence application to see if and on what device colleagues are available ... hence a rival to Lync and SameTime.
