The lead story is: This Newsletter is looking for the Best User Application projects of Telepresence and HD Videoconferencing completed in the period 1 January 2010 to 31 March 2011. The Editor plans to select and publish as award-winning the Best four User Application Stories from each of the 8 major regions of the world. An outline for stories of 500-600 words is given. The deadline for receiving submissions is 11 May 2011. Clearance for publication can follow later.
The 4 Telepresence and HD Videoconferencing User stories are: Students and faculty at the State University of New York at Oswego (SUNY Oswego) will interact with experts across the world using Cisco Telepresence systems (Verizon); MLB Network uses Cisco Telepresence, video and network technologies to power video components of their Major League Baseball TV programming to 57 million homes in the USA; The National Dance Institute in Harlem, New York will use Cisco Telepresence to bring diverse cultures and artistic traditions together; Cisco's office in Nigeria has been installed with the Cisco TelePresence System 3000 Series; there is a good connection to Europe using the MainOne submarine cable which is now live;
Industry News is: Orange Business Services has expanded the reach of its B2B Telepresence solution for its customers by linking with Tata Communications' Global Meeting Exchange.
New equipment news is: RADVISION SCOPIA Mobile V3 enables Apple iOS and Google Android devices to connect with full video, audio and H.239 data to the installed base of 2 million standards-based VC and TP systems worldwide; Polycom's Accordent Media Services p-powered by Microsoft Windows Azure- a cloud services offering hosted on the Windows Azure platform- was launched at NAB 2011 this week; NEC Unified Solutions has added enhanced Polycom desktop video conferencing to its UNIVERGE SV8100 communications server for business customers in the Middle East; and a correction to the story about the Arrow1000 720p HD videoconferencing system in the last issue.
