We announced in the last issue that this Newsletter is looking for the Best User Application projects of Telepresence and HD Videoconferencing completed in the period 1 January 2010 to 31 March 2011. An outline for stories of 500-600 words was given. The deadline for receiving submissions is 11 May 2011. Clearance for publication can follow later with a picture.
There are 5 Telepresence and HD Videoconferencing User stories: The Vatican has deployed VidyoConferencing to enhance communication between the various locations throughout the organization; Directors of large companies are beginning to use Telepresence for their Board meetings; it is favoured for helping overseas board members to avoid travel and to bring in expertise from remote sites; Sales prospects in North America and experts in Santiago, Chile discussed and tasted selections of wine from Viña Concha y Toro making full use of the power of Cisco TelePresence; Massachusetts General Hospital Telestroke Program chooses Vidyo for Telemedicine with 27 hospitals in Mass, NH and Maine because it provides a quantum leap forward in image quality; CDW Report finds that 75% of the 631 surveyed companies will be using Videoconferencing within the next two years; nearly 50% of companies plan to choose an Immersive Telepresence solution.
New equipment news is: Vidyo's new VidyoMobile solution enables users on iOS or Android smart phones or tablet to join Video Conferences with users on standards-based PC or Mac Desktops or HD Room Systems; Ineedmed will launch a Heart Monitoring Device at American Telemedicine Association Expo which uses a disruptive technology to enable patients to self-make an EKG in their home; Logitech/LifeSize now offers support for Skype video on the inexpensive LifeSize Passport HD Videoconferencing system; Logitech also offers HD VC webcams and its own VID HD video service.
Industry News is: Polycom reports Revenue in Q1 2011 was $344 million, 25 per cent higher than in Q1 2010; Non GAAP net income reached $0.48 per share versus $0.29 per share and cash flow was $46 million
